Let me start by saying this post isn't meant to dissuade anyone going to foreign countries for higher education. The trend in Nepal seems to be going to the USA for college and taking an exorbitant amount of loans to fulfill that. I’m pretty sure none of our parents are Bill Gates nor Jeff Bezos. We all come from different financial backgrounds; some of us have bigger dreams and aspirations than others, yet we will do anything to achieve it even if it means taking out vast sums of loans. We are brainwashed to believe going to the USA is the end all be all, which isn’t the case at all. We take these loans out just to put in the resume that we studied in the USA, which doesn’t even guarantee a job. Mind you when you do get to the USA, it will be a struggle fest to support yourself ( you can’t get a job with a student visa unless it’s the campus’s job with horrible pay). As a society, why have we glorified the USA as a perfect city upon a hill? Why have we failed to teach about the real USA?
Why do we think we can support our family and yourself as a student? When we cant. I know our parents want what best for us, even if it means supporting our ambitious goals, but let’s not put them in a horrible position. Why do we fail to realize what the consequences will be from our actions? Let me end my rambling with let’s think twice about our decisions. As previously stated, going to the USA will NOT guarantee you a job, but it will ensure whole bunch of loans. With all that being said, understanding what in-front of you is far more important than turning a blind eye to it. Feel to chime in.
